AlumaReel® is a Swan Lake, Manitoba manufacturer of premium mobile welding solutions, serving commercial, industrial, and specialized welding markets across Canada and the U.S. Joseph Hofer approached me needing more than a standard website rebuild. The project required a dual-site launch (alumareel.ca for Canada, alumareel.com for the U.S.), full ecommerce functionality on both, and automatic CAD/USD exchange rate pricing between them. The centerpiece was a custom-built interactive 3D product configurator, developed exclusively for the Canadian site, letting welders virtually build their own rig by selecting and placing AlumaReel® components onto a pickup truck bed in real time. The configurator includes smart logic that disables incompatible parts based on truck length, welder type, and prior selections, mirroring exactly how professionals configure setups in the field. This project combined custom website design and development, ecommerce website design, multi-currency integration, and interactive 3D functionality into a single cohesive platform built for a Manitoba-based manufacturer with a North American reach.
AlumaReel®’s existing logo lacked the visual strength to compete, and their manufacturing-grade 3D models were far too dense for web use. The configurator required custom-built product logic to enforce correct assembly order, disabling incompatible parts based on the user’s selections as they built their setup. The goal was simple: let customers visualize and price their complete mobile welding rig on the back of a pickup truck, exactly as they would in the real world. The platform needed to perform flawlessly across all devices and screen sizes, from desktop to smartphone, on both iOS and Android.
AlumaReel® has 2 websites catoring to the Canadian Market, and another for the U.S. Market. The U.S. one has e-commerce and sells direct to customers. Since AlumaReel® has dealers in Canada, it provides estimates to the Canadian market, either by choosing a product from it’s specific product page, or by going through the ISO Configturator to recieve an estimate on a full welding setup. They can’t all choose the Parts Configurator to select specific products. Joseph the Owner is over the moon with the results that we provided them.
AlumaReel® now operates dual ecommerce websites for Canada and the U.S., each tailored to its market with automatic currency conversion between them. The interactive 3D configurator walks users step-by-step through building their ideal mobile welding rig, ending with a real-time estimate they can submit directly. Since launch, estimates have increased by 600% to Canada, and sales have increased by 1200% to the United States. Customers have responded with overwhelmingly positive feedback on both the website experience and the refreshed brand, with many reporting repeat visits driven by the quality of the design and experience alone. AlumaReel® now dominates the welding market in the North America, and has dealers opened in Germany, New Zealand and Australia since the creation of the Websites.
